The Nomination Dossier
opens the door for the System of Condominium Theatres of Central Italy to become a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Dossier consists of four volumes (Nomination Format, Management Plan, Cartographic Atlas, and Executive Summary) presented in a slipcase designed to reflect the institutional prestige of the candidacy through its physical craftsmanship. Its design required translating the project’s visual identity into a cohesive editorial system, capable of structuring complex content such as texts, maps, tables, and technical data sheets into a unified format across all volumes.

Box set
The box set brings together the four volumes of the Dossier in one package,
crafted to convey the institutional value of the nomination through its materials.
Print and packaging specifications
We conceived the box set containing the four volumes as a physical home for the Dossier. Its three dimensional structure and the selection of materials bestow authority upon it, fully aligning with the institutional importance of the nomination it holds and conveys.
The box is crafted in burgundy Cialux cloth, featuring gold foil stamping applied via dry debossing. The inner volumes feature a cream cloth cover with burgundy sublimation printing, while the interior pages are set on Arena Rough Natural paper with digital printing across all volumes.
Nomination Format, Management Plan, and Executive Summary are Smyth sewn bound. Meanwhile, the Cartographic Atlas, requiring a different reading experience, features concealed wire binding, with pages equipped with fold out flaps to allow the full opening of the maps.
Grid and layout
The standard format required for UNESCO nomination volumes is A4, a constraint shared by all dossiers. On this common base, we built a layout capable of adapting to diverse content, including texts and especially maps and tables, which are central elements in this type of nomination documentation. The layout grid was generated from the same golden ratio that governs the mark geometry, thus bringing geometric consistency to all communication artifacts of the project.
Internal pages
Alongside text pages, the Dossier includes layouts dedicated to more complex content,
technical sheets, timelines, and maps, presented through a clear and intuitive visual language.
Technical sheets and timeline
In the context of evaluating a nomination, conveying complex information in a clear and accessible manner was essential. We therefore developed special page layouts, such as the theatre technical sheets and the timeline.
The technical sheets offer an overview of all relevant information for each theatre: its name, geographic location in relation to both regional and urban contexts, floor plan, and scale measurement references.
The same approach applies to the timeline: using data visualization across a double page spread, the construction period of the theatres is placed in relation to the historical context. The location of each theatre and its floor plan are highlighted through dedicated icons.
Maps
Maps are a central element of the Nomination Format and the Cartographic Atlas. Outstanding among them is the map illustrating the relationships and movements of technicians and specialized craftsmen between the entities of the nominated system.
For the individual theatre maps, we worked with halftones, color palettes, and scales to ensure visual consistency between the real world dimensions of the buildings and the required Dossier specifications, such as the nominated area, the buffer zone, and the theatre floor plan.
The main design challenge was the organization and visual translation of complex and highly diverse content: text, maps, and data all had to coexist within a single editorial system.
